Introducing Until Dinner
This devlog should have come before the cabbage one but game development is never perfect like that. So here's me telling you more about my passion project Until Dinner.
Until Dinner is a top down pixel art rogue-lite with procedural maps and interesting characters.
I've had this idea for a game years ago. I have been working on it on and off (mostly off) up until now. At certain points in time, the development was so slow, I even gave up on it thinking, I would never get it to a playable state. Recently though, for some reason I can no longer remember, I've had a surge of motivation and energy. I decided to give myself 3 months to get a demo out. Depending on the reception, I can finally put this project to rest or I can start working on making it a full game. Here's what I did the first two weeks of those 3 months.
- I created a new web page for Until Dinner. This is for me to be able to pitch the game to the best of my abilities. It is still very much a WIP as of now (17 Feb 2026).
- I revamped my personal portfolio page on neocities. It weirdly felt freeing to finally learn how to create responsive designs with CSS as it was something I've been putting off for a long time.
- I created a blog page, on my website. This is for aspiring developers and for the people who have taken a deeper interest in the game.
- I created my very first devlog about a new type of monster in the game. (Yes, the aforementioned cabbages)
- I created a 5$ patreon tier that gets your name in the game's credits.
- I created three other monster types with placeholder sprites. Those are; lamas, carrots and thorny bushes.
- I'm testing out a new approach to spawning enemies in the battle rooms where they come at you in waves.
- I've added a counter to display the amount of monsters alive in the current wave. It's functional but will need a visual update in the future.
What's Next?
Here's what I plan on doing in the upcoming week.
- Get the carrot and the cabbage sprites ready for game. My artist friend khaleer is doing this for me. Getting these sprites done will finally allow me to get some shareable gameplay footage.
- I'm giving the minimap a functional and a visual make-over right now.

I'll add a new room where you can interact with Piotrek the Bee to save his hive from the wasps.
- I'll add new weapon which can be acquired by saving the hive.
